Home Robot Vacuum Buyers Guide.

What is a robotic vacuum cleaner?

Like its name suggests, a robotic vacuum cleaner is an autonomic vacuuming machine that roams around a certain area picking dirt and cleaning up the place. Unlike the ordinary vacuum cleaner, you do not need to lift a finger to clean up your house and some of them can even clean when you are away at work.

Why you need a robotic vacuum cleaner.

It saves you time. Some people have very busy schedules and one can hardly get some extra hours to clean up the house. A robotic vacuum thus saves you time allowing you to engage in other constructive activities as it does all the house cleaning work while you are at work.

They clean places you cannot reach. Most robotic vacuums are designed in such a way that they can easily navigate through furniture and access areas that are difficult to reach such as beneath the cabins and other furniture. This ensures that the entire house is always tidy and free of allergens.

You can rest as it works. Sometimes you might be too tired and can’t imagine draining the little energy you are left with to do clean up the floors. The robotic vacuum cleaner saves you energy and you can relax or take a nap as it does the cleaning for you.

Perfect for people with mobility issues. This is a convenient solution for anyone with mobility problems since all they need to do is to direct the robot to clean without having to move an inch. This also saves them the extra cost that incurred by having to hire a cleaner every now and then.

They are easy to use. Robotic vacuums are extremely easy to use and some are even better as you do not have to babysit them. Most of them come with a remote control that you can use to direct them on what to do and others still are compatible with Alexa and can be controlled using voice commands or a smart phone.

You have pets. If you are a pet owner, there is no doubt that you do need a robotic vacuum cleaner. This is because the robot picks up the pet hair and dander from the floors and you can schedule it to clean daily to ensure the house if free from pet hair. This will also save you from allergy problems that could result from pet litter.

Factors to consider before acquiring a robotic vacuum.

Budget. How much are to willing to spend on a vacuum? There are many robot vacuums in the market and they all vary in prize and you therefore have to choose the one that suits your needs and also affordable. Depending on the features, you can get a fairly cheap robot while you can also go for one with advanced tech features if you are willing to spend extra. For instance, a robot which has wifi, is compatible with Alexa and has an App may cost you more than the one that only comes with a remote control.

Type of floor. Although most of the robots are able to clean various types of floors, some are best suited to clean particular floors. For example, some robots are very good at cleaning hardwood floors while they are not very good at carpet cleaning. If you need it to clean both hard floors and carpets, you should consider going for a robot that can easily clean both floors and give you quality results.

Maintenance. Buying the robot vacuum is not all as you will still be required to maintain it for it to properly serve you. Some of them have smaller dustbins than others and therefore need to be emptied every now and then especially if your pet is the type that sheds a lot of hair. Other dustbins are washable and that is still something you have to do at least once in a while. Also, check with the seller whether it is possible to get the vacuum’s spare parts in case it malfunctions.

Noise. Generally, the robot will emit some noise while cleaning but the noise varies from one robot to another depending on various aspects. Ideally, the larger and more heavy-duty machines produce more noise compared to the lighter machines. As such, if you need the robot for a study room, office, or cannot simply stand loud noise; ensure you go for a quieter robot. If you have kids or pets that do not need disturbance while they are asleep, a quiet robot will be the best.

Battery life. A long lasting battery is something you would want so that your robot does not have to keep on returning for recharging after every few minutes. If you need the job done fast, be sure to go for a long-life battery that can clean for over 100 minutes nonstop. This however may come at an added price and it therefore depends on whether you are willing to pay more for a good battery.

Size. Most robots are short enough to easily access the areas beneath furniture but you still need to be sure that the robot you are buying will easily clean below your cabins without getting stuck.

Disadvantages of Robotic Vacuum Cleaners.

Small bins. Some robots have little storage space for dirt and you may be forced to empty them in between the cleaning sessions. This means that such robots cannot do their job well when you are away.

Getting stuck. Although some robotic vacuums have sensors to avoid bumping into stuff, once in a while, they may collide with something and get stuck. The size or shape may also make them get stuck and may therefore not complete the cleaning unless you come to their rescue.

You still need to clean. They are good and indeed save you the energy and time but you will still need to clean up the house once in a while. They cannot completely clean every dirt or access or the places and you thus have to at least clean the places they cannot reach.

They are expensive. For you to get a really good robotic vacuum, you must be ready to spend some good amount of money. The problem is that the cheaper options may not give you the results you would like.

Conclusion.

At the end of the day, what really matters is that you get good results that are worth the price you pay for to get the vacuum. And in as much as these machines are designed to make your life simpler and better, they have their flaws that you must learn to deal with. Since you want to live happily with your pet, the best gift you can gift yourself and your pet is a good robotic vacuum cleaner.

You are the only person who best knows your pets and their needs and are therefore the only one who can make them happy and comfortable. When making the decision, remember that it is always good to pay more for quality than pay less for a vacuum that will break down shortly after purchase.

  1. Hi,

There are certainly many robotic pet hair vaccuum cleaners on the market. It’s sometimes difficult to choose the right one. You’ve given a great list of products and their pros and cons. I like the bObi Pet Robotic Vacuum. It has a HEPA filter and it also disinfects, so that’s a nice bonus. The fact that is has rechargeable batteries is also a huge plus point for me.

The Proscenic 811GB vaccuum cleaner also looks interesting and it comes with many controls, although I am not sure if I would need all those controls 😉 As long as it gets the job done, that’s what matters 🙂

And the Ecovacs has a remote and works with Alexa. Now, that’s awesome! Between those three mentioned vaccuum cleaners, I am going to have a hard time choosing. I think that my favorite is still the bObi Pet Robotic one.
