Design and build of the Roborock s6
The Roborock S6 hails from the Roborock S5, its predecessor and has the same basic design. It is circular and low slung plus has two main wheels. It has a mounted top that hosts a spinning laser that allows the vacuum to navigate and map your house. The rear part houses a removable 480ml bin and filter-cleaning tool. At the bottom, there is a wave like spinning brush between the wheels, which ensures all the particles get to the maw.
The charging station is made of compact plastic and it is easier to mount the S6 on its dock but the power lead is not that long. There is a clip on plastic base provided so that the S6 can physically sit on it. This is especially great for the mopping function.
Roborock S6 Floor mopping
The Roborock S6 does not only suck up dirt real good, it also mops hard surfaces as well. You will however need to fix a cleaning cloth to the cleaning module then click the module into place. Well, you can opt to just clean the floor yourself if doing all this is equal to the time spent in doing so yourself.
App and mapping
The only problem with the S6 is that it does not have its own unique app and instead, uses the generic Xiaomi Home Smart Home app. This could bring in a lot of confusion for the non-tech consumer. The S6 has a mapping feature that needs to be turned on in the settings menu of the app. This feature is useful but the interface is noisy and makes it hard to access.
Things are fiddly but you can map out your home with color codes. To avoid all this fuss, simply hook the robot vacuum to your home assistant of choice. Amazon Alexa support is readily available through the Roborock skill but this only gives you basic control and we mean, very basic. If you would like control that is more granular then we would recommend Google Assistant. Google Assistant actually worked well, we simply command a cleaning and it will obey.
Cleaning performance of Roborock s6
This is a powerful and flexible vacuum cleaner that comes with four distinct power settings. The highest setting is the 2000pa. Its zigzag movement pattern and side brush ensure that all areas are accessed and that you get comprehensive cleaning done.
The 5200mAH battery will work straight for three hours in lowest quiet mode. This is great if you have a baby in the house or if you need to go pick up something from the grocery store. The rubbery side might struggle with long carpet fibres.
Deep cleaning performance
Smart map control
Long battery life on silent mode
Easy to clean and maintain
Basic mop work
Alexa skill simplistic
48 dustbin capacity
Rating- we give this robot vacuum cleaner above four stars because it is nothing short of spectacular and is a true upgrade from the S5. Most upgrades normally improve few things at the expense of other features.

What should you look for in a Robot Vacuum?
There are several robot vacuum brands out there and you might just be wondering what you should go for and what should be left behind. Some of the things you might need to check are:
HEPA filtration– you need this to ensure that your house is not a dust paradise. HEPA filtration ensures most of the dust particles are trapped and are not released back into the air.
Battery running and recharge times– a good vacuum has lithium ion batteries. This is the latest technology and lithium batteries are readily available.
Replacement parts– are they easy to find or you have to move heaven and earth to source them? You should also note that as much as third party filters are great and affordable, always ensure that you get your internal electronic parts from the manufacturer.
Intelligent navigation systems– the robot vacuum should learn the layout of your house over time so ensure that the vacuum you get, gets that.
Virtual walls– the robot vacuum does not come with common sense so you better ensure it has virtual walls that inhibit it from entering some parts of your home.
Advanced scheduling features- you need them to ensure you can clean whenever.
A robot vacuum cleaner is a great addition to your family and home. It lets you focus on what you need to while the home remains clean and habitable. Robot vacuums are compact and so they do not take up a lot of space and your pets will have some great company.
The Mistakes You Are Making When Shopping for A Robot Vacuum
As mentioned earlier, there are several brands out there screaming for your attention. Therefore, here are some tips to get you started in the right direction.
Assuming the color
This sounds stupid and silly but just note that your robot vacuum will eventually get dirty with dust and fur. White vacuums will definitely end up looking ugly and demanding frequent cleaning themselves. Darker vacuums are just cool and you will not be compelled to clean the vacuum often.
Before choosing the color, note the kind of debris your robot cleaner will be sucking up. If your home is not always busy and you are living alone then bright colors are okay.
You forget to check the dustbin capacity
How many times do you want to bend down to empty the vacuum’s dustbin? Well, you will be bending frequently if you fail to find out the dustbin capacity of your vacuum. The larger the capacity, the less often you will need to empty it. The largest capacity is 1.1 liters but a decent size is 0.6 liters and above
You do not check the battery life
Please, please, please, battery life is everything. Decent robot vacuums run from 75 to 150 minutes. There are very many smart robot vacuums in the market that are so sensitive that when they notice that they are running low on juice, they head back to the dock and recharge. It is nice to know that you have a robot that lasts and can take care of itself.
Settling for a low price at the expense of features
Do not let the price reign supreme because you are buying a vacuum cleaner not money. Check the features first before settling.
Going with a certain brand because it is the only one you recognize.
iCielo is another new brand for household brand when it comes to robot vacuums. Kindly explore and get amazed.
Other mistakes you make are:
You do not consider the unit’s height and size
You do not consider the shape
You get vacuums that do not have scheduled cleaning
You get a vacuum that cannot mop
The Roborock S6 is the robot vacuum cleaner of the decade easily. Apart from its rubber side not getting along with the carpet fibers, everything else is just good. Yes, there are other robot vacuum cleaners with better smart assistant integration but they are also very expensive.
The S6 performs far much better than the more expensive vacuums. With its improved navigation, mopping function, and app, it’s not only a thoughtful step up from the estimable Roborock S5, but a clear contender with other big-brand robot vacuums.

2 thoughts on “A Review of Roborock S6 Vacuum Cleaner in depth”
I have been looking around for a robot vacuum cleaner, I found your review to be very detailed and it answered my questions very well. The main thing that puts me off this type of gadget is how difficult they seem to be to get the mapping sorted. I’m not technical in any way and it all seems pretty complicated o me. My daughters are great with technology so my workaround would be to get them to program it for me.
Thanks for the feedback,
The point was it doent have its one mapping software, there is an option you can take buy using the generic Xiaomi Home Smart Home app..
